“3D” means 3 dimensions: x = horizontal, y =vertical, z = to and fro. James Cameron’s “Avatar” is an attempt to establish an antiquated kind of “3D” as an industry standard. Actually, its dual-coloured glasses technique is derived from comic-books from at least as far back as the 1950s, a process that produces a colour-tainted multi-layered effect rather than Actual 3D. One might at least distinguish this as “Analog 3D”.
I find this layered distancing of objects from one’s.visual persepective interesting but quite distracting– and colour distortions are still a problem — ie. why is the whole Avatar movie blue?
Cameron’s “Avatar” uses Actual 3D (ie. the xyz co-ordinate system) beautifully to build the environments, the machines, and motion-captured (MOCAP) characters. Xyz 3D has long been in rapid development on and off the Internet, resulting in virtual reality 3D chat interfaces (ie. Second Life and X-Robotica), “Virtual reality” does not mean wrap-around head-sets (another standards marketing ploy).
A “RICH MAN’S FOLLY”
Compared to Actual 3D, multi-layerd Analog 3D still sucks and should have died with 3D comic books. With all due respect, big industry bucks ride upon James Cameron’s enthusiastic campaign. But, so what? — “Avatar” is an extremely pretty film with advanced Analog 3D and CGI battles for the guys, and a dragon fantasy love story for women and children.
Ironically , Cameron’s 2D DVD version of “Avatar” is visually far more beautiful than his 3D extravagance.

Jeff Jonas: As you get more data and you start weaving it together you actually start assembling things you get actual pictures, youre not staring at pixels anymore, you actually see chunks of the puzzle.
Julia Grace: If we can analyze and mine this data then we can understand it. And if we can understand it then we can understand trends about it.
Jeff Jonas: How do you do that in billions of rows of data? in real time? to service missions from advertising to healthcare to financial services.
Jai Menon: Weve got examples of working with companies where we were able to reduce by 50 percent the churn in their customer base by looking at these kinds of analytics.
Jeff Jonas: Really smart organizations are already making sense of what they know as they come to know it. And then make really fine grained decisions, accurate decisions.
John Cohn: That is going to yield benefits in everything, medicine, ecology, resource management even entertainment, and thats whats the great thing by the smarter planet
Jeff Jonas: So a lot of organizations feel overwhelmed by data, but the reality is they have seen nothing yet.
John Cohn: You know the more we instrument the world, the more sensors we put out the more data we collect you know you might think we would get inundated but it actually its the opposite the more data you have the clearer you see.
