Human value seems to have traditionally dealt with an individual’s moral choices within a life-time, or as ONE lived one’s life. Now, the demand of “sustainable practices” cuts against the assumed or meta-level individualism within prior moral reasoning. Perhaps “the afterlife” increasingly will become a doomsday reference used by people who want to ensure there will be some kind of sustainable LIFE here, at least for others, after their own personal death.
It is also interesting to ask if the commoner on the street has a scientific orientation or does your average secular person still kinda have a religious orientation, one focused on the promise of technology.

Clearly, technology is not science, and many people who demand and want technology have no scientific orientation. If we actually look at people’s practices, they mostly value individual or personal freedom.
